Clare Freeman, Wed 19 Sep 1877:
Tulla Temperance Society. On Sunday last, after 12 o’clock Mass, the majority of the members of the above society numbering of 100, preceded by their brass band, paraded the streets of the town, for the first time since its organization. The respectable appearance of the members each wearing his medal, and the very orderly manner in which the procession was conducted, reflected great credit on the promoters of this young society, and on the members generally. The performance of the band (24 instruments), considering the very short time they have been practising was highly creditable, and showed they must have been carefully instructed by their able teacher, Mr. Gardiner. A large concourse of people accompanied the procession, and gave evidence of satisfaction by loud and repeated cheering. It is expected that a large accession to the ranks of temperance will result from the day’s proceedings. Correspondent.
